Stipendium Hungaricum 2027-28: How Pakistani Students Can Apply for Hungary’s Scholarship

Published October 6, 2026 · by Hijrat — visa consultants, Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Hungary’s Stipendium Hungaricum is one of the few fully government-funded scholarship programmes open every year to Pakistani students, and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) runs the Pakistan side of the selection. With the 2026-27 round closed, now is the best time to prepare for the next call.

What the programme offers

For the 2026-27 intake, HEC listed about 200 Bachelor’s seats, 70 one-tier Master’s seats (including Medicine and Dentistry), 100 Master’s seats and 30 PhD seats. Tuition is covered by the Hungarian government. Published guides also list a monthly stipend of roughly HUF 43,700 for Bachelor’s and Master’s students (higher for PhD), health insurance, and either a dormitory place or a housing allowance. Amounts are set by Hungary and can change each year, so confirm them in the official call.

Deadline: expect mid-January

The last round closed on 15 January 2026 at 16:00 Pakistan time, for both the HEC portal and the Hungarian portal. We have not seen the 2027-28 call yet, but past rounds suggest a similar window, with the call appearing in late autumn or early winter. Start documents now rather than in January.

Who can apply

Applicants must be Pakistani or AJK nationals who meet HEC’s criteria and the entry requirements of the Hungarian university programme they choose. In general, Bachelor’s applicants need intermediate (12 years) education, Master’s applicants a 16-year Bachelor’s degree, and PhD applicants an MS or MPhil plus a research plan. English-taught programmes may ask for IELTS or TOEFL, depending on the university. Scholars are also expected to attend the Hungarian language preparation course, so treat it seriously.

How the application works

  1. Create an account on the Stipendium Hungaricum portal and choose your programmes and universities.
  2. Apply separately on the HEC scholarship portal — a submission on only one portal is not enough.
  3. Register for the HEC entry test where HEC requires it for your level.
  4. Upload transcripts, certificates, a motivation letter and, for PhD, the research plan and recommendation letters.
  5. If nominated, prepare attested degrees and an IBCC equivalence certificate.

Prepare your documents early

The step that delays most applicants is paperwork. Pakistani degrees usually need HEC attestation, school certificates need IBCC attestation, and some Hungarian universities want certified translations or MOFA apostille. See our attestation services, the wider list of fully funded scholarships for Pakistani students, and the DAAD scholarship guide for another European option. After selection, students still need a Hungarian residence permit; read about our visa services.
