Germany Work Visa from Pakistan 2026: Blue Card Salary Raised to €50,700
Germany remains one of the most realistic long-term work destinations for skilled Pakistanis, and 2026 brought a fresh set of numbers. The EU Blue Card salary threshold has risen to €50,700 gross per year for most professions, while applicants in officially recognised shortage occupations can qualify on €45,934.20 gross per year. If you are planning an application from Islamabad, Rawalpindi or anywhere else in Pakistan, these are the figures your job contract must meet.
Blue Card or Skilled Worker Visa — which route?
Germany runs two main employment routes. The EU Blue Card (Section 18g of the Residence Act) is for university graduates with a recognised degree and a binding job offer that meets the salary threshold above. Its advantages are real: a faster path to permanent residence, immediate work rights for your spouse, and no German language requirement at the application stage.
The Skilled Worker Visa (Sections 18a/18b) is broader. It covers holders of recognised vocational qualifications as well as degrees, and it has no general salary floor. There is one important exception: if you are over 45 and entering German employment for the first time, your gross salary must generally be at least €55,770 in 2026, or you must prove adequate pension provision. If your degree is not recognised or your field is not on the shortage list, this is usually the route that fits.
Step one: check your degree on ANABIN
No German visa officer will look at your contract until your qualification is settled. Search the ANABIN database, run by the Central Office for Foreign Education (ZAB), for two things — your Pakistani university (it should show as H+) and your specific degree. If your degree does not appear, you apply to the ZAB for a Statement of Comparability, which takes roughly two months and costs extra. Vocational qualifications follow a separate recognition procedure through the relevant German chamber or authority.

Fees and where you apply
The German national (long-stay, category D) visa fee is €75. On top of that, the VFS Global service fee in Pakistan is around €38, payable in cash at the visa application centre. The German Embassy in Islamabad handles applicants from Islamabad Capital Territory, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir; Sindh and Balochistan applicants go through the Consulate General in Karachi.
Appointments and processing time
This is where most plans slip. Appointment slots for German national visas from Pakistan are in heavy demand, and applicants have reported waits of several months — in some categories close to a year — simply to secure a date. Once the file is lodged, employment visa decisions commonly take several weeks to a few months, depending on whether the local German immigration office (Ausländerbehörde) and the Federal Employment Agency need to be consulted. Employers can shorten this considerably by using the accelerated skilled worker procedure, which they initiate in Germany on your behalf.
What to prepare now
A signed German employment contract or binding job offer with the gross annual salary clearly stated; passport valid well beyond your intended entry; attested degree or vocational certificate plus ANABIN or ZAB proof; CV and reference letters; proof of health insurance; and completed national visa forms with a declaration of accuracy. Applicants over 45 should also prepare pension or salary evidence.
