Germany Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) for Pakistanis 2026: Points, Fee and Process

Published June 27, 2026 · by Hijrat — visa consultants, Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Germany's Opportunity Card, or Chancenkarte, has quickly become one of the most talked-about routes for Pakistani professionals who want to work in Europe but do not yet have a job offer. It lets qualified non-EU nationals move to Germany for up to a year to look for work on the ground. Here is what Pakistani applicants need to know in 2026.

What is the Opportunity Card?

The Chancenkarte is a job-seeker residence permit introduced under Germany's Skilled Immigration Act. It has largely replaced the old job-seeker visa for applicants coming from abroad. Instead of needing an employment contract first, you enter Germany, then search for a job, attend interviews and even do short trial work — all legally — while you are there.

Who can apply: the points system

There are two ways to qualify. The first is as a recognised skilled worker — if you already hold a university degree or vocational qualification that Germany formally recognises. The second is through a points system, where you need a minimum of six points. Points are awarded for your qualification, recent work experience, German or English language ability, your age (more points if you are under 35), and any previous stay in Germany. As a baseline you generally need a degree or at least two years of vocational training, plus German at A1 level or English at B2.

Money you must show

Because you will not have a salary at first, you must prove you can support yourself. In 2026 the figure commonly cited is around €1,091 per month (roughly €13,092 for the year). Most applicants show this through a German blocked account (Sperrkonto), though part-time income or a formal sponsorship declaration can also be accepted.

The fee and where Pakistanis apply

Pakistani nationals apply through the German missions in Pakistan (Islamabad and Karachi) before travelling. The visa fee is approximately €75, payable in Pakistani rupees at the current exchange rate. You will book an appointment, submit your documents and biometrics, and wait for processing. Plan for several weeks, as timelines vary with appointment availability and demand.

What the card lets you do

While job-hunting on the Opportunity Card you may work part-time up to 20 hours a week and take two-week trial jobs with potential employers. The card is valid for up to 12 months. If, by the end, you have a concrete job offer but cannot yet switch to a regular work permit, a follow-up card (Anschluss-Chancenkarte) of up to two years may be possible.

Get your documents ready first

Most Pakistani applicants stumble on paperwork, not points. Your degree usually needs to be recognised, and supporting documents often require HEC and MOFA attestation plus certified English translation. If Germany is not a fit, our team can also map out other work and study visa options and scholarships.

Disclaimer: Visa rules, fees, points criteria and the required proof of funds for Germany's Opportunity Card change frequently and the final decision rests entirely with the German authorities. The figures above are indicative for mid-2026 and should be confirmed against the German Federal Foreign Office and the German missions in Pakistan before you apply.
