France Work Visa from Pakistan 2026: Work Permit, Fees & Talent Passport
France remains one of the largest job markets in the European Union, and every year a small but growing number of Pakistani engineers, IT professionals, chefs, nurses and construction workers move there on a long-stay work visa. The route is realistic — but it is employer-led. There is no French work visa a Pakistani can file on their own from Islamabad without a signed job contract.
Step one happens in France, not Pakistan
Before you touch a visa form, your French employer must apply for autorisation de travail (work authorisation) through the French Ministry of Labour's online platform. The employer has to show the role is genuine, that the salary meets at least the French minimum wage (SMIC), and — for most jobs outside the official shortage-occupation list — that they could not fill the post locally. Employer-side approval commonly takes about two to six weeks.
Only once that authorisation is granted do you apply for the long-stay visa (VLS-TS "salarié") on the France-Visas portal and attend your appointment in Pakistan. Beware of any agent who offers to "arrange" a French work permit without an employer — that offer does not exist.
Which French work route fits you
VLS-TS salarié / travailleur temporaire — the standard employee visa, tied to a CDI (permanent) or CDD (fixed-term) contract. It doubles as your residence permit for the first year once validated.
Passeport Talent (carte de séjour "talent") — a multi-year permit of up to four years for qualified hires, generally requiring a master's degree or equivalent experience. For 2026 the qualified-employee salary threshold is reported at around €39,582 gross per year, with a higher floor for certain categories and roughly €59,373 for the EU Blue Card route. Spouses and children can join under "Talent – Famille", and the spouse gets work rights.
Seasonal and posted-worker permits exist too, but they are narrow and almost always arranged directly by the employer.
What it costs
The French long-stay visa fee is €99, payable in Pakistani rupees at the chancellery rate on the day and not refunded if you are refused. The visa application centre charges its own service fee per file on top. After you arrive, you must validate the visa online through the ANEF portal within three months of entry and pay a residence tax stamp — for most employee categories this rose to €300 in 2026 (students and some reduced categories pay less). Budget separately for translation, attestation, travel and medical costs.
Documents Pakistani applicants should prepare early
- Passport valid well beyond the contract start date, plus the France-Visas form and receipt
- The approved work authorisation and your signed French employment contract
- Degrees and transcripts, HEC, IBCC and MOFA attested, plus any professional or trade certificates
- Certified French translations of civil-status documents where the checklist requires them — see our note on certified translation
- Proof of accommodation in France, recent bank statements and police character certificate
Where you apply and how long it takes
Applications submitted in Pakistan are examined by the French Embassy in Islamabad, and only the Embassy decides. Long-stay files are widely reported to take a minimum of 30 days after the appointment, and often longer in peak months, so the realistic end-to-end timeline from job offer to visa is roughly two to three months. Incomplete or poorly translated files are the single most common cause of delay.
