Latvia Work Visa for Pakistanis 2026: Requirements, Fees and Process

Published October 12, 2026 ยท by Hijrat โ€” visa consultants, Islamabad & Rawalpindi

Latvia is a small Baltic EU country that has become a talked-about destination for Pakistani workers, especially in logistics, transport, construction, food processing and warehousing. The route is real but narrow: you cannot simply apply for a "Latvia work visa" on your own. A Latvian employer has to start the process, and the state checks the job first. This guide explains the steps as they stand in October 2026.

How the Latvian work route works

For a stay of more than 90 days, a third-country national needs either a long-stay national (D) visa or a temporary residence permit with the right to work. The employer normally advertises the vacancy through the State Employment Agency (NVA), which issues an opinion on the position, usually within about 10 working days. The employer then submits an invitation request to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP). Only after the invitation is approved can you apply for the D visa at a Latvian embassy or its visa service provider. See our overview of work visa options for how this compares with other countries.

Salary and financial requirements

Latvia sets minimum pay for third-country workers. Published guidance for 2025โ€“2026 puts the usual gross threshold for a standard employment residence permit at around EUR 1,685 per month, with higher figures for EU Blue Card holders and senior managers. Seasonal work follows simpler sector rules. The ordinary national minimum wage does not meet the employment-permit threshold, so a low-paid offer may be refused. Thresholds are updated periodically, so ask the employer to confirm the current figure with PMLP before you pay for anything.

Documents for the D visa

  1. Passport issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned stay.
  2. Invitation approved by PMLP.
  3. Completed visa application form and a recent white-background photo.
  4. Employment contract signed by both employer and employee.
  5. Health insurance valid from arrival, with cover of at least EUR 42,600.
  6. Travel booking and proof of accommodation in Latvia.
  7. Bank certificate and statement showing means for the last three months.
  8. Police clearance and attested education or experience documents where requested. Our attestation guide explains HEC, IBCC and MOFA steps.

Fees and processing times

One Latvian embassy lists the D visa fee at EUR 90. Residence permit review fees are reported at about EUR 160 (30 days), EUR 280 (10 working days) or EUR 560 (5 working days), and the invitation request carries its own small state fees. A standard residence permit decision can take around 30 days, and card production adds roughly 10 working days. Appointment waiting, document collection and courier time come on top, so plan for several months from job offer to arrival. Service-provider charges are separate and vary by location.

Protect yourself from fake job offers

Latvia is a frequent target of fake agents who sell "ready visas" for large sums. A genuine process never involves a visa without a PMLP-approved invitation and a signed contract. Never pay an agent before you can verify the employer's registration number and the vacancy. Overseas employment through an intermediary should also follow Pakistan's rules; read about BEOE registration and the protector process. If you are comparing destinations, see our guides to Poland and Lithuania, or the Schengen EES changes affecting short trips.

What to do next

Start by checking the employer and the exact job title, salary and contract terms. Prepare your passport, education and experience records, and clean police clearance early, because attestation can take weeks. Then wait for the invitation before booking anything non-refundable.
