Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters 2027-28 for Pakistanis: Scholarship, Deadlines and How to Apply

Published October 15, 2026 ยท by Hijrat โ€” visa consultants, Islamabad & Rawalpindi

If you hold a bachelor's degree and want a fully supported master's in Europe, the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) programmes are among the most competitive options open to Pakistani students. Applications for the 2027-28 intake typically open from autumn 2026, and many programmes close between October and January, so now is the time to prepare.

What is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master?

An EMJM is an international master's programme run by a consortium of universities, usually in two or three European countries. Students study at least two periods in different countries and normally graduate with a joint or multiple degree. Programmes generally last one to two academic years (60, 90 or 120 ECTS credits), and you can search the official Erasmus Mundus catalogue by subject, from engineering and data science to public health, law and the humanities.

What does the scholarship cover?

Scholarship holders are generally covered for programme participation costs, and receive a contribution towards travel, installation and living costs. Guides currently quote a monthly allowance of around โ‚ฌ1,400 for the length of the programme, up to 24 months, but the exact package is set by the European Commission and each consortium. Admission does not automatically mean a scholarship: funding is awarded competitively, and some programmes also admit self-funded students on separate terms.

Who can apply from Pakistan?

Applicants are generally expected to hold a recognised bachelor's degree, or to finish one before the programme starts. Each consortium sets its own academic prerequisites, English-language requirement and extras such as a CV, motivation letter, references, a portfolio or research proposal. Some programmes accept alternatives to IELTS or give exemptions, so read each programme's page carefully. Students who have already received an EMJM scholarship are normally not eligible for another one.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Shortlist programmes in the official catalogue that match your degree and career goals.
  2. Check each programme's own website for its deadline, scholarship rules and any limit on the number of applications.
  3. Prepare your documents early: transcripts, degree certificates, CV, motivation letter and references. Plan for HEC degree attestation and document attestation if the university or later the embassy asks for it.
  4. Book your language test if required, as results can take time.
  5. Apply directly through each consortium's online system and watch your email for document requests and interviews.

After selection: visa and arrival

Selected students apply for a national student visa for the first study country, and the process, fees and timelines differ by country. Our guides to the Germany student visa, Italy student visa and UK student visa show what embassies usually ask for. You can also compare other funding such as the DAAD scholarship and Stipendium Hungaricum, and browse all options on our visas page.

Common mistakes to avoid

Do not rely on a single application, do not wait for the last week to arrange attested documents, and avoid agents who promise a guaranteed scholarship. Genuine EMJM programmes do not charge application fees to scholarship applicants through third parties, so apply only through the official programme websites.
