Schengen Visa Appointments From Pakistan: How to Book in 2026 — and the New €90 Fee

For most Pakistani travellers the hardest part of a Schengen visa is not the paperwork — it is getting an appointment. Slots at the Islamabad visa centres are released in batches and can vanish within minutes, and every summer the waiting lists stretch out for weeks. Here is how booking actually works in 2026, what it now costs, and how to avoid the scams that have grown up around the queue.

Which centre handles which embassy

Schengen states do not accept applications directly in Pakistan. They outsource intake to commercial partners — VFS Global, TLScontact, BLS International and Gerry's — operating centres in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi. Germany, for example, routes its short-stay applications through TLScontact, while several other missions including Switzerland use VFS Global. These arrangements change from time to time, so always begin on the embassy's own website and follow its link to the partner. The fee rises to €90 on 11 June 2026

The European Commission has approved an increase in the Schengen short-stay visa fee from €80 to €90 for adults, with the children's rate (ages six to under twelve) moving from €40 to €45. The change took effect on 11 June 2026 across all 29 Schengen and associated states; applications lodged before that date were charged at the old rate. On top of the embassy fee, the visa centre charges its own service fee — commonly somewhere in the €15–€35 range, for instance around PKR 5,664 at VFS Global Islamabad for Switzerland. Both are payable in rupees at the day's exchange rate, and neither is refunded if the application is refused.

When you can apply — and when it is too late

Under the Schengen Visa Code you may lodge an application no earlier than six months before your intended travel date, and no later than 15 calendar days before departure. Because appointment waiting times in Pakistan regularly run into weeks during peak season, treat the six-month mark as your actual target rather than the 15-day floor. Some missions in Islamabad no longer publish a live calendar at all: instead you register free of charge on a waiting list, receive a reference number by email, and are invited to book when a slot opens.

Practical ways to secure a slot

1. Register or start checking the day your six-month window opens — not the month before you fly.
2. Check all three cities. A Lahore or Karachi slot plus a flight is often cheaper than a cancelled holiday.
3. Watch for cancellations. Released slots most often reappear early in the morning on working days.

5. Confirm the basics: passport valid at least three months beyond your return date with two blank pages, and travel insurance covering €30,000 in medical costs.

Ignore anyone selling a "guaranteed" appointment

Appointments are booked free of charge; you pay only the embassy and service fees at the centre. Embassies and consulates across the region have repeatedly warned that agents promising early or guaranteed slots, often using bots to hoard them, are running a scam. Paying one risks your money and, because false information can taint the application, your visa. After you lodge the application

Consulates are required to decide within 15 calendar days of a complete application being accepted. That can be extended to 45 days where a more detailed examination is needed, and in exceptional cases up to 60. Biometrics are reused for 59 months, so a recent Schengen application may spare you a fingerprinting appointment.
