Pakistani Passport Renewal 2026: Online Process, Fees and Urgent Options

An expired passport is the fastest way to lose a job offer, a visa appointment or a booked flight. The good news: in 2026 the Directorate General of Immigration & Passports (DGIP) lets most Pakistanis renew entirely online — no queue at the passport office, and for overseas Pakistanis, delivery to your door. Here is what it costs and how it works.

Renew online — who qualifies

If you already hold a machine-readable passport (MRP) and your details have not changed, you can apply at DGIP’s online portal (onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk) from a phone or computer: upload a photo, your CNIC and your current passport, pay online, and collect from your chosen office — or have it delivered where the service is available. First-time applicants and those changing name or other particulars still visit an office for biometrics.

2026 fees at a glance

For the common 36-page, 5-year MRP, expect roughly Rs 4,500 normal, Rs 7,500 urgent and Rs 9,000 fast track, plus about Rs 1,000 in service charges and applicable taxes. Bigger page counts, 10-year validity and the newer e-passport cost more. Renewal costs the same as a fresh passport of the same category.

How fast is each option?

Normal takes up to about 21 working days. Urgent is usually ready in around 5 working days. Fast track — offered at Executive Passport Offices in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and other big cities — can deliver in roughly 2 working days. If you have a visa interview or joining date coming up, pay for urgent; the difference of a few thousand rupees is cheap insurance.

Overseas Pakistanis

Pakistanis abroad can renew online through the DGIP overseas portal and, in many countries, receive the new passport by courier at home. Fees are charged in dollars — typically around $50–65 for normal and $80–100 for urgent for a 36-page, 5-year book, varying by mission. Keep your NICOP current too — you will need it for the application and for travel to Pakistan.

Common mistakes that cause delays

Blurred document scans, photos with glasses or shadows, unpaid challans and mismatched CNIC data are the usual culprits. If your CNIC is expired, renew it with NADRA first — DGIP verifies against NADRA records.
